Digital tourism is booming, offering travelers an immersive, interactive experience at cultural and heritage sites. One destination that stands out in this field is Champlain, Quebec. Thanks to the tour application developed by OHRIZONvisitors can immerse themselves in the history of this charming Quebec town using augmented reality. This new way of discovering Champlain offers a unique and engaging experience for tourists of all ages.

Digital tourism is constantly evolving, offering new experiences to travelers around the world. One of these exciting innovations is the use of augmented reality to make tourist visits more immersive and captivating. A remarkable example of this use of augmented reality can be found at the Champlain church in Quebec.

A revolutionary immersive augmented reality technology for tourism

The Champlain Church tour app uses state-of-the-art augmented reality technology to offer visitors an unforgettable immersive experience. Using a tablet provided on site, users can explore the Champlain church as it was in 1908. Thanks to cutting-edge augmented reality technology, the Champlain church offers the kind of augmented tours that all heritage sites dream of. Not only can you see the church as it was in 1908 through the screen of your tablet, but this view also evolves as you move!

But that's not all! The app also features a virtual guide, Lucien, the church's dog whisperer. Lucien accompanies visitors along their journey, recounting anecdotes and sharing stories about the church and the village of Champlain. This interaction with a fictional character adds a playful and educational dimension to the visitor experience.

You are greeted by a virtual guide who takes you step by step through the monument, giving you a unique experience.

An experience for all audiences

Champlain's immersive augmented reality tour app offers several options to suit the needs and interests of different audiences. Visitors can choose between a self-guided tour, a guided tour or even take part in an interactive game with Lucien, the dog whisperer.

  • The self-guided tour allows visitors to explore the church at their own pace. As well as immersing themselves in the 3D model of the church, which changes as they move around, points of interest are scattered around the church, and visitors can choose to click on them to obtain historical and artistic information about each element. This tour is ideal for independent visitors wishing to deepen their knowledge of the church's architecture and history.
  • The guided tour, meanwhile, offers an immersive, scripted experience. Visitors follow Lucien as he makes his way through the church, discovering important points interactively. Lucien tells captivating stories about the history of Champlain and its inhabitants, immersing visitors in the atmosphere of the time.
  • Finally, the dog-spotting game is specially designed for children. They help Lucien find the dogs that have wandered into the church, using fun and interactive strategies. Created with immersive augmented reality technology, this entertaining game lets kids have fun while learning about Champlain's history. But be careful, you'll have to be a clever strategist and take them by surprise by moving as slowly as possible.

Enhanced experience thanks to analyzed visitor tests

The development of the Champlain tour application has been an ongoing process. The OHRIZON team improved the experience through various user tests and by taking into account their comments and suggestions. For example, tests were carried out to measure visitor engagement and enjoyment throughout their visit. The digital data collected enabled the team to perfect the experience and guarantee total immersion in Champlain's history.
