The Gergovie plateau is a major archaeological site located some ten kilometers south of Clermont-Ferrand. It is home to the Gallic oppidum of Gergovie, famous for having been the scene of a decisive battle between the troops of Vercingetorix and the Roman legions of Julius Caesar in 52 BC. With its 70 hectares and altitude of 744 metres, the plateau also offers exceptional panoramic views over the Limagne and Allier valley plains, as well as the Auvergne volcanoes.

The "Puy-de-Dôme Terre d'Archéologie" application has been developed by OHRIZON to enable visitors to discover the département's archaeological sites virtually, using augmented reality. Available on the App Store and Google Play, this application offers an audio-guided tour illustrated with restitution images, complementing the content of the interpretation tables and labels installed on the sites. It also offers differentiated content downloads, enabling visitors to enjoy the application even without a network connection.

The main aim of the "Puy-de-Dôme Terre d'Archéologie" application is to offer visitors a fun, practical and educational experience as they explore the Gergovie plateau and other archaeological sites in the département. Thanks to augmented reality, users can enjoy immersive experiences by discovering diverse content, such as 3D models and immersive 360° accounts of the battle of Gergovie.

This content is adapted to all audiences, whether adults, young children, teenagers or people with disabilities. It complies with RGAA accessibility standards, and offers specific options for people with disabilities. The application is available in five languages (French, English, Spanish, Dutch and German) to reach an international audience. It offers a variety of visit itineraries ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, adapted to all levels of interest and curiosity.
