Success story: Social game with 3D augmented reality avatars at the Musée du 22e Royal Régiment in Quebec City

3D avatars invade the Royal 22e Régiment Museum at the Citadelle of Québec with an innovative new temporary exhibition on the central theme of War Games. The exhibition offers a playful experience that reveals the links between games on the one hand, and military training and planning on the other. In partnership with MASSIV'ART and the agency specializing in the creation of augmented reality experiences OHRIZONthis exhibition offers a captivating interactive immersion in augmented reality using 3D animated avatars. Immerse yourself in a world where the virtual meets the real, and discover the evolution of war games through time.

OHRIZON: Pioneers of Augmented Reality

OHRIZON was the creative driving force behind the augmented reality experience. The technical expertise of its team, a passion for innovation and a real taste for creating experiences for all audiences enabled us to push back the boundaries of the traditional museum experience. OHRIZON's innovative approach has enabled us to create a unique interactive experience that transports visitors into an immersive virtual world.

Ideation and Concept Creation

The idea for this exhibition arose from a desire to highlight

military representations in North-Western popular culture, notably through miniatures (figurines, scale models), board games and video and simulation games, revealing their origins as well as their evolution over time. This exhibition makes war games more accessible and highlights their link with military training and planning. OHRIZON, MASSIV'ART and the Musée 22e Royal Régiment worked closely together to develop the concept for the exhibition's augmented reality experience, imagining a concept that would appeal to both video game enthusiasts and military history buffs.

The concept of the experiment had to meet four objectives:

  • Creates a relevant end-of-show experience in connection with the new temporary exhibition on the central theme of "War Games".

  • Encourage visitors/users to share their experience on social networks

  • Exploit the potential of augmented reality with tablets available on site

  • A nod to video games

Technical and 3D Creation of Augmented Reality Experiences

Once the concept had been finalized, OHRIZON applied its technical expertise to create a captivating augmented reality experience. Using cutting-edge technologies, OHRIZON's teams developed "semi-realistic" 3D avatars that interact with visitors.

With this augmented reality experience, our aim is to create a memorable souvenir and sharing experience, based in particular on the craze for "personality tests" on social networks.

This final experience also aims to finish with a surprising and engaging "touch", encouraging everyone to share a photo with their "avatar" on social networks.

Discover Your Unique 3D Avatar

Using a tablet provided by the museum, each visitor answers a simple mini-quiz (3 questions with 3 choices of answers). Depending on the answers, a 3D avatar is revealed.

We were inspired by theProteus effect effect to create this 3D avatar experience. You might be surprised at how closely this avatar resembles your gaming personality!

The 3D avatar is accompanied by a personalized military identification card that highlights the avatar's unique characteristics.

Then, each visitor can act with his avatar to make it perform several actions:

  • Military action: each avatar is skilled in a different weapon or combat technique, from the most conventional to supernatural powers.

  • Posing action : to take a photo with your avatar, the latter takes several poses, in line with its personality.

  • Dancing action: to put a smile on everyone's face, each character performs a dance: from the duck dance to the Gangnam Style break dance.

You'll also be able to take photos with your 3D avatar in augmented reality and share them on social networks.

A Unique Multimedia Experience

To make this experience even more immersive, OHRIZON has created a system for retrieving multimedia elements with a simple e-mail. You can retrieve all the photos and videos taken during your visit in a single download. This allows everyone to relive their experience at any time and share their memories with friends and family.

Interactive screens in several museum rooms

Finally, in several rooms of the exhibition, visitors are greeted by a captivating presentation screen that immediately immerses them in the experience. In particular, visitors are invited to take part in interactive quizzes to test their knowledge of war games, created by OHRIZON.

An innovative museum experience

The Royal 22e Régiment Museum's innovative temporary exhibition, created in partnership with OHRIZON, is a must-see experience for all war games and military history enthusiasts. Immerse yourself in a captivating virtual world and discover the links between war games, military training and strategic planning. Don't miss this unique opportunity to meet your 3D avatar!
